
Al Geemi Contracting Company LLC was awarded the Zirku Runway Strip Integrity Project by M/s ADNOC Offshore on April 25, 2021. The project is valued at AED 55,550,000.00 and started on April 28, 2021, with completion scheduled for February 22, 2022. Because it is fast-track, most work will occur during the 30-day shutdown period.
The project site is Zirku Island, located 140 km northwest of Abu Dhabi City in the Arabian Gulf. Zirku Island serves as a base for ADNOC Offshore and was previously operated by the Zakum Field Development Company. Approximately 4,000 people live on the island. The project covers an area of 0.60 square kilometers.
M/s ADNOC plans to upgrade the Zirku Island Airport Infrastructure. Key components include:

- Taxiway A upgrade
- Visual aids
- Runway strip grading
- Runway strip drainage
- GCAA approval
The project requires design, construction, testing, and commissioning of the runway, following the FEED completed by M/s ADNOC.
